CEO/CCO, PLAYA Agency
Helen jumpstarted her copywriting career by winning major awards for work promoting affirmative action, reproductive rights and the first multi-ethnic ad agency in the U.S. She honed her craft at Deutsch,TBWA chiat day, Team One, DDB, Ogilvy and Saatchi & Saatchi where she won recognition from the One Show, London International awards, New York Art Director’s Club, Communication Arts, Adweek’s Best Ads and the Effies.
Though she’s worked on super bowl spots and top-tier campaigns for Fortune 100 companies, Helen may be most proud of her work for progressive nonprofits like the ACLU, SaveDarfur, Amnesty International, MoveOn.org, Feminist Majority and VoteVets.org where she learned how to motivate critical masses of people on shoestring production budgets.
And because she knows marketing and advertising must be more inclusive, Helen recently opened PLAYA, a certified minority and woman-owned ad agency, to help brands and organizations reach more diverse audiences.
As a side gig, she has helped elevate the work of underrepresented authors as Managing Director of the world’s largest intersectional feminist book club alongside Emma Watson.
Helen lives in L.A. and is the proud Mom of twin teenagers.
