Music Composer, Sound Engineer & Owner, Howard Audio
Adam Howard was born and educated in the UK. He boasts a music degree – BMus (Hons) GSMD LGSM - from the world-famous Guildhall School Of Music and Drama in London, and originally came to South Africa to take up the position of principal trumpet of the New Arts Philharmonic Orchestra Of Pretoria (based at the State Theatre) in 1997. He was also principal trumpet player for the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
Howard owns and runs the award-winning 3-studio facility ‘Howard Audio’ – based in Bryanston, JHB. There, Howard Audio’s services include - music composition, album production, arrangements, audio final mix, sound design and musical direction for corporate events. He has musically directed, composed, arranged, produced and performed music for many of South Africa’s top artists, among them – Hugh Masekela, Lira, Freshly Ground, Lebo M, Mbongeni Ngema, Brenda Fassie, Thandiswa Mazwai, Danny K, Jonathan Roxmouth, Kabelo, Mafikozolo, The Parlotones and many more. His clients have included VW, Toyota, Discovery, Mercedes-Benz and Audi.
Howard also formed and runs the Johannesburg Big Band - a collection of the finest jazz and session musicians in South Africa.
Howard has won nearly every award you can win in advertising, including Gold and Silver Cannes Lions, Clio’s, D&AD pencils, One Show, Loeries and SAMRO Walwela awards. Clients such as Joe Public United, TBWA, DraftFCB, Y&R, Ogilvy & Metropolitan Republic, continue to use his musical services.
Adam Howard performed at the 2010 FIFA World Cup “kick-off” concert, performing with the likes of Alicia Keys, John Legend, Hugh Masekela and Angelique Kidjo in front of 60,000 people – and to an TV audience of 1 billion people!
In 2012, Adam was asked to be Musical Director for William Kentridge’s “Refuse The Hour” – an “Avant-Guard Chamber Opera” that has toured the world.
Howard Audio also owns a new facility – Studio Immersive – which houses 3 Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 studios – where immersive audio is mixed for the likes of OTT services like Netflix and Apple Music.
He was the #1 ranked South African music composer and supervisor for the 2020 Loeries Awards
