LeoAguirre

Director, Park Pictures

Leo Aguirre is a writer, director, and visual artist. Working as both a filmmaker and photographer, his projects span a wide range of styles and themes across the commercial, music video, and narrative landscapes. Striving to push concepts through nuanced creative approaches, his projects have garnered international recognition for their craft — blending poetic, textural, and visually bold storytelling.

Born and raised on the United States-Mexico border, Aguirre spent his adolescence in the Caribbean, where his interest in various art forms led to his pursuit of filmmaking. While studying film and communication at college, he worked in both the camera and lighting departments, eventually transitioning to cinematography before fully dedicating himself to directing.

In 2020, his kaleidoscopic exploration of biculturalism along the U.S.-Mexico border, No Somos De Aquí, Ni Somos De Allá (We Are Not From Here, Nor There), gained international acclaim and launched his career in advertising. Since then, Aguirre's work has received numerous awards and nominations from Ciclope Festival, the ADC, and the 1.4 Awards, in addition to earning him a Young Guns Award in 2020. In 2022, he represented Mexico at the Asian Art Biennale in Bangladesh with his photo and video work.

He has directed music videos for tracks by James Blake, River Tiber, and Becky G, and has helmed global campaigns for some of the world’s largest brands. His narrative contributions have screened at festivals including the Austin Film Festival, the New Orleans Film Festival, and SXSW. His debut feature film is currently in development.
