SamHopkins

Editor

Sam is an Award Winning Film Editor represented by Magic Edit, the newly established Edit House - part of Oscar Winning Audio Post facility, Wave Studios.

It’s always been Sam’s dream job and something he wanted to do for as long as he could remember. So much so that he left home at 16 to move to London and work in the industry.

Sam worked his way up through a number of high profile Ad Agencies and Post Houses. From Engine Group (House 337), Trailer Park, Hogarth, Grey London, The Mill & The Associated Press.

He was Head of Editing at Engine Group for 5 years before finally going freelance in 2022 after winning D&AD’s, British Arrows and a Cannes Titanium Lion for work on The Kiyan Prince Campaign and Dropped for Certified Sports. He also had his first feature documentary OVERHEATED, with Billie Eilish released in various cinemas globally. All of this led to him being named in the D&AD’s Top 100 Editors of 2022, coming in 15th.

He recently completed his second feature documentary for the Discovery Channel with Ian Derry and Park Village.

In 2024 he joined Magic Edit, alongside Vanessa Wood (former Speade & Marshall Street Editor) and Meg Thorne (Former Quarry Editor).

Sam is extremely versatile and intuitive editor, working across both short form and long form pieces from, commercials and promo’s to films and feature documentaries. He has a great deal of technical knowledge, having spent his early years in many machine rooms, which has given him the perfect platform to express himself creatively.

For Sam, there’s no end to his hopes and ambitions for the future. Whether that’s editing feature documentaries or films, writing screenplays and, even directing. This is a passion and vocation for him, and he loves what he does.
