Director, Academy Films

Runyararo Mapfumo is a UK based writer and director working out of Academy Films, London. She recently completed a block of Sex Education season 3, (now available on Netflix).  She assisted and was mentored by JJ Abrams, working with him throughout the production of Star Wars IX.  In 2018 she was listed as one of the ’20 Rising Female Filmmakers 2018’ by Leville TV. 

Her short, ‘What’s In A Name?’ was part of The Uncertain Kingdom short film initiative, aiming to provide a portrait of the contemporary UK.  Previous to this, her BBC and Google Arts commissioned short ‘Sensational Simmy’ was released and broadcast on BBC and BBC iPlayer. Runyararo also wrote and directed short film ‘Dawn in the Dark’, backed and funded by BFI Network and BBC Films which is currently on the festival circuit after its debut screening at the London Film Festival.
