Ong’s extensive creative experience spanned 29 years in the advertising arena, both locally and regionally.

Born and bred in Malaysia, Shi Ping Ong spent many years of his advertising career in Hong Kong. In 2008, he was headhunted to join Ogilvy, where he helped the network’s Malaysian office win a Silver One Show Pencil for a regional TV campaign for Matchbox. Ong also helped DDB Hong Kong win several Cannes Lions, including the agency’s first-ever Silver Cannes Lion in 2011.

Then, he went on to build Cheil Hong Kong’s creative department from the ground up and grow it into one of Hong Kong’s top creative agencies, winning the agency’s first-ever Cannes Lion, One Show and D&AD Pencils alongside numerous other metals at international and regional award shows.

In 2016, he returned to Malaysia and joined FCB Kuala Lumpur as Chief Creative Officer. In July 2017, Ong took up the offer to buy out FCB’s operations in Malaysia, and he subsequently cemented his commitment to the agency as a Co-owner by rebranding it to FCB SHOUT in 2022. Under his leadership, FCB SHOUT won Marketing & Advertising Magazine’s Agency of the Year titles in record-breaking fashion, taking home the top prize in 2018, 2021 and 2022. The agency also bagged Dragons of Asia’s Agency of the Year title in 2021 and was APPIES Asia Pacific’s Agency of the Year in 2022.

Ong received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1992, majoring in Advertising from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
